Rufous Night Heron
(Chordata, Aves, Ardeidae, Nycticorax Caledonicus Caledonicus)
The rufous night heron is a small and mainly nocturnal bird that lives in the dense vegetation around ponds and streams. It's native to parts of northern Australia and South-East Asia. The latin name, nycticorax, means 'night raven' and refers to the harsh crow like calls that the bird makes at night.
