Lamp

height: 180 mm, diameter: 50 mm

This is a modern energy saving lightbulb. It does not have a filament, but consists of a gas-filled tube. An electric current induces the gas to discharge light. The mercury vapour lamp in this collection, which was made much earlier, works on the same principle. Because these lamps do not rely on the limited life of a filament, they do not have to be replaced as often as other lightbulbs. They also need less energy to produce light.
