A 'still life' is a representation of inanimate objects such as flowers or fruit, more often associated with a two-dimensional object such as a painting or photograph than with ceramic. When making this piece, the potter was influenced by the 20th century painter Giorgio Morandi, known primarily for producing still life compositions, delicately painted in pale colours.
